Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) is India’s first manufacturing hub for medical devices.
Andhra Pradesh is working on creating a transformational model for healthcare in the state, focussed on four aspects namely 1. ‘Availability - Primary healthcare’, 2. ‘Accessibility - Healthcare services to doorstep’, and 3. ‘Acceptability – Trust in Healthcare workforce’, 4. ‘Affordability – Low cost with universal access. Additionally, the state is working on building an ecosystem of medical equipment manufacturers in the state, that can create world-class products while making them economical as well.
The Government has formulated Dr YSR Aarogyasri Scheme to provide universal health coverage in the state. The scheme provides key health services such as maternal health care, child health care and family welfare services through a network of 7,458 Sub-centres, 1,142 Primary Health Centres, 195 Community Health Centres, 51 Area Hospitals, 12 District Hospitals, 10 other Health facilities and 11 Teaching hospitals. The Government is also working on creating 16 health hubs which will attract private healthcare providers with state-of-the-art healthcare treatments.
The State is home to several MedTech companies, that operate through manufacturing units in the government-funded Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Vishakhapatnam. It is spread across an area of 270 acres and is dedicated to medical device manufacturing. It is likely to house over 250 manufacturers in two phases and generate employment for 25,000 individuals.

Availability: Andhra Pradesh is establishing 16 new medical colleges, with at least one in each parliament constituency of the State and 16 Multi-Specialty hospitals under the Health Hub Scheme. The Government has allotted INR 16,000 Cr (USD 2 Bn), to the Nadu Nedu program that invests in revamping the healthcare infrastructure in the state.
Affordability: End-to-end cashless healthcare services for BPL families are provided through Dr YSR AarogyaSri via empanelled network hospitals for 3255 procedures.
